Fahad and I finally found time to meet up today. He's a group 3 student from Kuwait. We met at Atomic Coffee, where we learned a lot about each other. After he was gracious enough to buy my Medici latte, I found out that he's been in the US for 10 months, will graduate from CIES at the end of this semester, and will move on to Tennessee Tech in the Spring to study chemical engineering (whoa). He has been studying English since he was very young, and it is clear that his comprehension is very good. I think he was a little shy at first today because I found myself directing much of the conversation. He started to loosen up when I got him talking about his native country though. He misses Kuwait and his family. He showed me a video of a British man traveling around the capital city, and I must say, it really does look like a beautiful country. Fahad kept pointing out notable buildings, including malls (of which there are about 50, according to him), companies, restaurants, etc.
I hope Fahad is more conversational next time we meet up. I offered suggestions of things that we could do, to which he would always respond, "As you like." Maybe we can go shopping at Publix or something, and I can teach him about all the things I like to cook. Other ideas are appreciated!
How about asking him to guide two conversations.
ReplyDeleteThe first is "If I could take you to my country for 7 days, these are the things I would make sure you could see/do..."
The second is, "Before I leave America, it is my hope to go and see/do...
