Bobby - TP_CIES 3

I actually felt bad for wanting to meet with the CIES students today. They were supposed to go watch the parade as a large group, and I felt like I was taking up fun time for them! Alas, only one of my students showed up to my tutoring session this week, and I tried not to take up too much of his time so that he could go hang out with his friends. This week, it was Bruno that showed up. I was fine with this because I like working with him. He's very intelligent and really has a great grasp of the English language. We started by going through a list of verbs given to him by his teacher. The words were in three categories, each with a different rule as to how the respective past tense is formed. After spending some time going over this, we started working through some of his compositions from class. The guy really doesn't make many errors. Anything that looks wrong, he recognizes as a "beautiful mistake" and knows that it needs to be changed. He showed me a composition from his listening class, in which the class discussed modern technological advances and how science is affected humanity. It was about a page and a half of well structured paragraphs and sentences. He used great vocabulary words and was very clear in his message. I read through his paper and made small corrections here and there - don't worry, he's not going to be turning it in :) - and tried to explain why I corrected some things. For the most part, he just has trouble with word order. For example, he'll say things like "there is no evidence currently" instead of "currently, there is no evidence" or something like that. I think this is an easy fix, and will come with time and practice.
