So today I had three students. I had to back track a little seeing as two of these guys I had never met before. I had to find out where they were, and to see if they could fit in with what I was already working on with Fawaz. As it turns out, they were in the same group as Fawaz, and had the same kind of needs.
We kept working on reading and vocabulary. We also worked a little on speaking, but I didn't want to do too much at once, so we kept it simple. I printed out several written dialog, and together we walked through them and took the place of the speakers. Again, I didnt want to do too much, so we just read the dialog. As we were going, and talking with each other I made notes about the more difficult words they were dealing with, and kept a log on them.
After working on this for about 30 minutes, we moved on to reviewing what we read and going over words. In this stage I started answering a few vocab questions, but this really wasn't our focus. I would tell him what words meant only for the sake of understanding the conversation... not for long term retention. We worked on how to ask questions for a lot of our review time. Using the proper tone and stress. When they would ask something, I would repeat the question they just asked in the right tone if they asked it wrong. Soon they caught on and started asking questions really well. Towards the end, I wrote down a few vocab words to add to the notes they were taking, and told them we would be going over these words next week, and it would be good if they started using these words is every day conversation.
We concluded by going over the words form last week. I used them in sentences and asked them if they understood. Fawaz did, and then he used them in different sentences back. I felt it was a smooth lesson seeing as that we had new people. It went really well!
