I tutored Jun for
the third time on Thursday. His mom
cancelled our session the prior week due to Halloween, which I’m sure Jun
enjoyed very much! I was welcomed once
again by snacks, and this time his mom gave me a little, traditional Korean
drum charm. Jun and I worked on science because he needs
improvement in that subject. Just like
last time, he read the text to me, and I checked for comprehension by demonstrating
concepts and asking him questions after each paragraph. The chapter’s topic was “Force and
Motion.” We talked about friction, work,
simple machines, and more. To
demonstrate force and work, I made him kick a ball softly and then a little
harder. I asked him which time he used
more force and, therefore, which time he was doing more work. He understood the concepts as we talked about
them. Jun seemed to be absorbing the
material pretty well. His pronunciation
and ability to read out loud is very good.
He had trouble reading a couple of bigger words, but when I told him to
slow down and sound them out, he was able to read them. He
even did a good job with writing down a few example sentences using terms such
as “force” and “gravity.” I’m hoping
that Jun will remember the concepts and continue to do better in science.
