Giulio was the only
person who showed up to tutoring today.
I caught him up on everything we had done since he came to
tutoring. He told me that he went
through the adjective PowerPoint that I sent the group and that the pictures
really helped him. We went through all
of it and talked through every word. He
needed help with the pronunciation of some of the words, and we talked about
the meaning of each of them. He came up
with synonyms and example sentences, which I wrote on the board for him. I can tell that this helped him since he has
trouble with pronunciation. He seemed to
enjoy talking about the new words and committing them to memory. Giulio told me that he wants to work on his
listening skills and that it is really hard for him to understand what other
people are saying when listening in on their conversations. He says that the slang and fast-talking makes
it difficult. He did point out that
having a conversation with someone is a little easier because you are engaged
and being asked questions. He wants to
listen to videos and discuss them afterwards, which sounds like a good idea to
me.
The importance of developing the listening language skill, even above that of speaking, is something I didn't realize before reading this week's chapter on listening. Giulio is a great reinforcement of what I am learning this week. Thanks!
