I met with Carlos and Marco for our tutoring session. Another adult student couldn’t
come. They both want to have extra
time to learn more English. Carlos
hopes to study electrical engineering and Marco hopes to study physics in the
doctoral program at FSU. They both
have a lot of intrinsic motivation to improve in their abilities and to
succeed.
Using worksheets, we worked on using articles “a”, “an”, and
“the”, or no article at all. Carlos
and Marco took turns answering the exercises. They read out loud and filled in the blank. In this way, they could also practice
orally. They enjoyed the exercises
and found them helpful for making them think very quickly. We worked on words that are easily mixed
up, such as compliment, complement, effects, affect, etc.
We worked on the pronunciation of words that begin with a
“b”, “p”, “w”, “m”, “th” … because both of them have problems with these words. We then worked on minimal pairs such as
leaf, leave, fan, van, ferry, very, etc.
I suggested to them that they could learn on their own through the
websites that I sent them.
Marco and Carlos both expressed that they really enjoyed
learning in their tutoring session and appreciated my help. I pray and wish that these 2 young men
will do well and become men who will contribute greatly to their societies.
