I had lunch with Soren
again for my eighth conversation partner meeting. I had planned to do something with Neto the
day before or another day this week, but he was not feeling well. Out of all of my conversation partners, Soren
is the one who wants to hang out the most.
We have developed a routine of going to the same place for lunch and
sitting by either the Westcott fountain or the small fountain by the music
building. We talked about our
weekends. He told me that he wants to
stay at FSU, but it would be too expensive.
He’s really sad to be leaving.
Soren still asks me conjugation questions and has problems with has v.
have. He practiced using them, and this
repetition will help. I learned
something interesting about an aspect of culture in Denmark. He asked me about how people in the U.S. go
about asking someone to be his/her significant other. He asked if they get down on one knee, and
when I told him that that’s done for marriage proposals, he was surprised. Apparently people in Denmark often get down
on one knee to ask someone to be his or her boyfriend/girlfriend in Denmark as
well as for marriage proposals. I found
that interesting. When lunch hour was
ending, I ran into Laura, my other conversation partner, from Panama. We talked for a few minutes with some other
students before going to class.
Sounds like great meeting. What a fun fact about courtship in Denmark!
