The next conversation session I had with Eric was over
Skype. Honestly, I really enjoyed doing
this because it was very casual since we were both in our home
environments. We talked a little about
the meal we had and talked a lot about foods that were similar between the
Ivory Coast and the United States. He
told me that in Dakkar, the city that he lived in and one of two capitals in
the Ivory Coast (one political and one economic) there were many American chain
restaurants so he was familiar with McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken and
others before he came here. In a lot of
ways, this, and the fact that so many products are now sold worldwide, made his
transition to the U.S. much easier.
Considering that he has only been in the U.S. for less than a year, his
English is phenomenal. We agreed that we
would have another conversation in a couple of days. I find Eric a very personable fellow and
think we will remain friends for a long time.
