In the 4th conversation with Eric, we talked
about the problems that his wife was having coming to the U.S. I still don’t quite understand why it is so
difficult for her when it was not so difficult for him, but he told me that he
had to hire an immigration lawyer to help him.
He found out about this lawyer through a Mexican fellow that also works
at the Doubletree. To get his wife here,
he needed to find a sponsor to guarantee that she would not be without a
job. He said when you need help for
something major like this, you really find out who your friends are and how
many people are unwilling to stick their necks out even a little bit. He told me that he was getting very excited,
because now that all the arrangements have finally be made, he will be going
back to the Ivory Coast in about a week to bring his wife back in a month. I offered to drive him to Jacksonville to
catch his flight, but he did not want to put me out and said that he would take
the bus.
